Housing Australia, the independent national housing agency, has announced two senior executive appointments aimed at boosting its capacity to deliver more social and affordable housing nationwide.

Pretar Harris to lead Housing Australia’s More Homes arm

Following a comprehensive market search, Pretar Caroline Harris (pictured right) has been named chief investment officer, More Homes. In this role, she will lead teams responsible for designing, delivering, and managing funding solutions that help partners increase the supply of social and affordable housing.

Harris brings more than 20 years of real estate investment and development experience across Australia, Asia, and the Middle East, with expertise in private credit, portfolio and asset management, and large-scale residential and mixed-use developments.

She has held leadership roles at Brookfield Asset Management, Goldman Sachs, Lendlease, and Aldar Properties, where she developed a track record in structuring complex transactions, managing diverse property portfolios, and delivering impactful housing projects across global markets.

Michael Camerlengo named deputy CIO, More Homes

Housing Australia has also appointed Michael Camerlengo (pictured left) as executive leader of clients and capital and deputy chief investment officer, More Homes.

A corporate and project finance specialist, Camerlengo has played a key role in advancing the organisation’s housing capital solutions and partnerships business over the past 12 months.

He brings extensive experience in infrastructure finance and project development from previous leadership roles at KPMG in China and Australia, including partner and head of government sector for the Asia Pacific region.

Together, Harris and Camerlengo will lead Housing Australia’s investment efforts to deliver more homes for Australians.

CEO: Strengthening capacity to meet housing needs

Housing Australia CEO Scott Langford said the appointments would bolster the organisation’s ability to support its partners in delivering housing quickly and effectively.

“These appointments reflect our commitment to continually strengthening our ways of working, building the capability and capacity needed to support our partners in delivering more homes, as quickly as possible,” Langford said.

“I’m excited to have Pretar and Michael stepping into these roles — their leadership will be key to driving our ambition to expand access to social and affordable housing.”

The appointments follow Housing Australia’s recent National Housing Infrastructure Facility Review, which showed $640m in concessional loans and grants committed since 2018 — with more than 72% of funding since 2022 directed to social and affordable housing, supporting over 2,400 homes for priority tenants nationwide.
